Uniform Patrol Division
The Uniform Patrol Division of The Banks County Sheriff’s Office currently operates with 21 sworn deputies. Most of these deputies work twelve hour shifts consisting of two day shifts and two night shifts. These Deputies are supervised with four shift Sergeants. The Patrol Division serves all 234 square miles of Banks County and patrols upward of 720 miles of state and county roads. The deputies of the Patrol Division answer calls when dispatched, transport prisoners, serve warrants, execute traffic enforcement, and actively patrol the neighborhoods and businesses of Banks County on a daily basis.
The Patrol Division averaged 9,960 miles a week in 2005, with a total of 517,957 miles covered for the year. There were 50,832 incident report numbers issued by The Banks County 911 dispatch and answered by The Uniform Patrol Division in 2005.
The Patrol Division has one deputy that directs the civil process unit of the Sheriff’s Office. This deputy is responsible for all civil papers to be served in a courteous and timely manner. The Patrol Division maintains a security post at The Banks County Courthouse. This post consist of one deputy and operates during all business hours of the Courthouse. This deputy’s responsibilities are to protect and serve the employees of the courthouse as well as the citizens who visit the courthouse daily.
There are also two deputies serving as School Resource Officers, one operating in The Banks County High School and one in The Banks County Middle School. Although these deputies operate from the high school and the middle school, their duties encompass all public schools in Banks County.
Within The Banks County Sheriff’s Office, the Patrol Division currently maintains a tactical team composed of deputies that have received specialized training in weapons and tactics. This “Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team” is able to respond to critical incidents and conduct tactical operations within Banks County.
The Uniform Patrol Division is directly supervised by a Patrol Commander at the rank of Captain.
