Criminal Investigation Division
The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for investigating crimes reported in Banks County against persons and property, such as murder, assaults, rapes, juvenile crimes, child molestations, child abuse, domestic violence cases, missing persons, monitoring registered sexual offenders, arson, burglary, theft, auto-theft, forgeries, credit card theft, identity theft, counterfeit money, and other crimes against persons and property. Approximately 1295 cases were opened and investigated during the year of 2008.
The Narcotic agents of the Criminal Investigation Division investigate all reports of sales and use of illegal drugs.
The Criminal Investigators work closely with other all County, City, State, and Federal agencies to assist in solving crimes in the area.
The investigators are involved in collecting all evidence, such as forensic evidence, latent prints, photographs, blood spatter analysis, and the collection of other trace evidence. Much of the evidence collected has to be packaged, and forwarded to the GBI Crime Lab for processing. The investigators conduct many interviews of victims and suspects of crimes of cases assigned to them
